Of Prostitutes, and Other Bloggers
You know what I can't stand? It's when "probloggers" talk about "how to blog" as if they know jackshit about writing.

Real bloggers, when are we going to stand up against this mockery of the form, this exploitation of the medium?

Don't you think this is a growing problem? People making money out of a medium we have made popularize with our skills and artistry? By our art, we have made blogging respectable! By our passions, we have made blogging authentic! By our compulsion to reach out with what we know we must share, we have made blogging alive, dynamic, vibrant!

Who are these charlatans, these pretenders to our court? Who are these apes with their skills for copy pasting?

I will continue to blog free from ads. I have always been blogging free from ads.

I mourn the sad state of blogging. I mourn the rise of the blogging prostitutes.

I'm actually thinking of putting up,not really a blog, but an online zine (with a blog section) that capitalizes on my kikay obsessions, but I'd like it to explore the different nuances of fashion and beauty so that it's not just a "how-to" or a "what's new" but there could be some essays on how clothing is more than just something we use to cover ourselves up with.

I'm reading two books right now, one is Jenna Weissman Joseit's "A Perfect Fit," about the social, economic and political aspects of American fashion (at P99 only in SM!). The other is on the fashion design process, which starts off with a chapter about clothing in america during particular decades were socio-political reflections of the time, like how World War 2 encouraged women (and even designers like Salvatore Ferragamo) to be resourceful. Extravagance was frowned upon and when the war ended and Christian Dior introdcued his "New Look" collection (because women were starved of glamour so long having worn very boxy, military-style clothes), the government spoke heatedly against women wanting to wear his clothes because they were excessive.

I'd like to have a site like that, na apart from doing the fun trendy stuff, reflects on the trends and what clothes say about the modern Pinay psyche.

I am an unreal because my blog has an adsense and other ads and I don't know jackshit about writing and blogging which thereal bloggers have made popularize with their skill and artistry. Now the real bloggers are standing up against us because we are mockery and because that's how real bloggers mourn the sad state of affairs. Of blogging. I did not know until today that I am a charlatan ape with copy pasting skills and that makes me unreal but now I know and knowing is half the battle so thank you real bloggers who make blogging authentic because with out you it would be fake and unreal. Like a tournament.

A personal opinion to take credit for.
[info]punkmeister
2008-04-16 03:11 am UTC (link)
Haay, a blog is a blog is a blog. Like literature can have the various objectives to entertain, to inform, to persuade, etc.

People applaud and criticize the whole body of books in existence. History has even seen some books being burned like witches at the stake for their content, perceived offensive by certain societies.

Blogging is also publishing but it has made immediate feedback possible and readily available to the blogger--bad writing, or not. The difference is with each click of the refresh button.

Anger-laced and positive replies alike are the online/blogging equivalent of the critics/readers/societies who react to a specific work.

This ain't new.
