Baguio Under Siege-- Asian Popstar Arrives in RP's Summer Capital

Camp John Hay, Baguio-- The High Priest of Performance Poetry and Asia's Literary Popstar arrives last Friday evening at the Manor Hotel despite several road obstacles and detours due to the storm.

Siege Malvar, looking exhausted from his Manila-Baguio trip that lasted (according to their road manager) 10 hours, checked-in at the Manor hotel together with the rest of the "Animating Literatour" artists, among them UK's Queen of Performance Poetry, Francesca Beard, and RP's Founding Father of Performance Art, Vim Nadera.

Eyewitnesses, mostly other Manor guests, were awestruck when the "From the Page to the Stage" sensation arrived. "He's really cool," a receptionist gushed. "We could tell he was really tired, and their wake up call for tomorrow's really early, but he took time to chat up with us, and have our pictures taken with him. I wish all our guests are like him." Then, she added: "Well, except for the whole throwing-the-tv-set-out-the-window-and-into-the-parking-lot thing. And the roasting-a-suckling-pig-in-the-fireplace-thing. Yeah. That part's not cool."

The "Animating Literature" Tour of the British Council (Philippines) is in partnership with LIKHAAN: The UP Institute of Creative Writing, and ran from September 26 to October 02, with two nights of performances, one in Manila, and the other in Baguio.
